Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria

Inclusion:

  • Persons must have a primary diagnosis of aphasia as determined by a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Persons with cognitive deficits will be considered on a case-by-case basis if language needs are of primary concern.

Exclusion:

  • Candidates cannot be behaviorally inappropriate or disruptive in a group environment.
  • Candidates must be able to tolerate group sessions and be an intentional communicator.
  • Candidates must exhibit appropriate levels of focused and divided attention necessary for participation in a small group environment.
  • Candidates must display a preference or indicate yes/ no via gesture, pointing, or verbalizing in a group setting.
  • If a candidate is unable to toilet independently or needs help with medications or other ADL’s, an individual needs assessment must be completed prior to accessing HARC’s CNA services. Otherwise, a caregiver must be present during the program day to help with these needs.

Note: Caregivers do not participate with participants in our daily group programs but are welcome to be a part of our Caregiver Program, which meets regularly at HARC.
