Gifts of Stock

Giving a gift of stock can increase your gift and your tax deduction.  Generally, you are able to take a deduction on the full market value of the stock when donating to Houston Aphasia Recovery Center.  If you wish to donate securities to Houston Aphasia Recovery Center, please contact our Development Staff at 713-781-7100.

IRA Rollover (Qualified Charitable Distribution)

If you are 70½ or older you may be able to make a gift to Houston Aphasia Recovery Center with a distribution from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) by making a Qualified Charitable Donation, commonly known as an “IRA Charitable Rollover.”

  • Avoid taxes on transfers of up to $100,000 from your IRA to Houston Aphasia Recovery Center.
  • Your gift through an IRA Charitable Rollover counts towards your required minimum distribution. Please note RMD requirements have been suspended in 2020 through the CARES Act.
  • Your gift is not included in your taxable income.  Even if you do not itemize your deductions you benefit by removing your distribution from your taxable income.
  • Gifts through an IRA Charitable Rollover* can be used to satisfy pledge payments.

*Please note that IRA Charitable Rollover gifts do not qualify for a charitable deduction.

To designate Houston Aphasia Recovery Center as a beneficiary of an IRA Charitable Rollover gift, contact your IRA plan administrator.  In order to be qualified as a charitable donation, your IRA administrator MUST make the distribution directly to Houston Aphasia Recovery Center, or you may write a check to us from your IRA checkbook.  Please contact our Development Staff at 713-781-7100 for more information or if you wish for your gift to be used for a specific purpose.

Donor Advised Funds (DAFs)

When you give a gift to a nonprofit organization, you want your charitable donation to be as effective as possible.  Donor Advised Funds (DAFs), the fastest-growing charitable giving vehicle in the United States, are a flexible and tax-efficient way to give to Houston Aphasia Recovery Center.  When you contribute cash, securities or other assets to your DAF, you are generally able to take an immediate tax deduction.

Have a DAF?  Recommend Houston Aphasia Recovery Center when you wish to make a gift (search our EIN 90-0434826 on any DAF charity database).  Don’t have a DAF but want to establish one?  Talk to your financial institution (like Fidelity, Vanguard or Schwab).

We are doing so much. With your help, we can do even more for those with aphasia.

All contributions are tax-deductible.
